Striking the Right Chord

Paul Bothner Music has actively supported Blastbeat since it launched in South Africa in 2007.  They supply backline to all mini company gigs, which are held all over the Western Cape, from Wynberg to Manenberg to Stellenbosch.  Every music genre is heard over the competition, and we have jazz, rock, punk, indie rock, metal and hip hop all represented at the Finals.  We have 17 bands competing at the Finals, for a chance to represent South Africa at the Blastbeat World Finals in Dublin.

Young musicians will be strumming for more than just the approval of their audience. Mr Price Blastbeat has partnered with music store Paul Bothners in the quest to find the best guitarist in the Mr Price Blastbeat Battle of the Bands competitions throughout the Western Cape. Paul Bothner Music actively supports South African music and has close ties with local studios and record companies.

A panel of industry judges, including local musicians, will judge the winning guitarist.  The competition has two platforms, young business minded and creative students and the bands that they find to represent.  Throughout the MMC (music and multimedia company) gigs, we will watch 90 bands/groups and musicians battle it out for their place in the National Finals.

The best guitarist will be judged on this evening and the winner will walk away with a Fender guitar from Paul Bothners!

The winning band from the Mr Price Blastbeat competition travels to Ireland to represent South Africa at the Blastbeat World Finals where they play for the chance of a lifetime – to win an international record deal!  The winning MMC wins a trip to Ireland to compete for first prize, which is seed capital investment for their company worth R50 000 (5 000 euros).

At the 2007 World Finals in Dublin, South Africa walked away victorious in the Mini company competition, with Irish band Hotsptop winning the coveted band competition.

All bands and MMC’s are registered on Blastspace – a safe and monitored social network for teens around the globe.

MK (MNET) will be broadcasting a reality show following four of these MMCs and their bands from the start of their journey, to the National Finals in November.  It will air in February 2009 and will showcase the enormous fun and learning experiences of these young people through their quest to be the best and win the competition.
