The Finals

The Mr Price Blastbeat Finals saw some shredding guitar solos, banging drum sets and incredible artistry from all the musicians who rocked the stage.

It's not about the range of your voice, the speed of your fingers on the fretboard, how fast you can double-bass or if you can pop that bass till kingdom come, it's about the whole package, like stage performance, tightness, the music, about being comfortable on stage and doing your best. I mean to be known as some of the best bands in CT! – Stefan Wessel-Swart from Sunrise Creek

Over 90 bands have competed in the Mr Price Blastbeat competition throughout the year, as part of the music & multimedia entrepreneurship schools programme run in 15 Western Cape Schools.  These bands were scouted by the companies to showcase the best local talent.  A&R Managers (Talent Scouts) were responsible for unleashing these young musicians on their crowds.  The finals saw 17 finalists, ranging from rock, metal, indie folk, jazz, hip hop and ska bands all taking to the stage in their attempt to wow the judges.
Tension was high as each group prepared for their one chance to play for the judges from Sony BMG, Blastbeat International and Rhythm Records.

The 10 hour music spectacular was split into two sessions, with well known Blastbeat alumnae Ben Nevis opening for the headline act, aKing.

5FM DJ’s KB and Fix joined the crew to present the event and show support for local artists and the creative business teams who made it all happen.

The Winning Band and Music company will represent South Africa at the Blastbeat World Finals in December, in Ireland.  The Music company will be looking to keep the World Championship title for South Africa and the band will be looking to impress the international judges with a truly South African music experience.
