Blastbeat World Finals 2008 - Ireland

The airport was buzzing with the chatter of family and friends as the South African team boarded the plane to London, en route to Ireland for the Blastbeat World Finals.

The National Finals in Cape Town, saw Sunrise Creek, a folk-rock band from Belville winning a joint first place and the opportunity to play in the International Blastbeat competition.

The mini company competition was a tightly fought race, with Perusecho and E-din Records placing just after the victorious joint winners, Hazardous Vibrations (Parel Vallei) and Freestyle Records (Manenberg). The two teams merged to form, Freestyle Vibrations, with a strong 8 member team.

The band and mini company were joined by Mtheto Moli, who won the Global Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award.  One student from across the globe wins this prestigious award and flies to Dublin for the World Finals to accept the prize.

Mtheto said a moving poem as his acceptance speech (see video section).

This year, the SA team was narrowly beaten - by Los Angeles who cleaned up in the music and mini company competition!

The winning band, Somewhere Else, a Rap-Rock band wowed the crowds and inspired us to push the boundaries of music.  Check out their profile and music on www.blastbeat.tv/somewhereelse

Congratulations to our team! You made us proud.
